Welcome to Matt Kamenski's 2019 SF Marathon Fundraising Page

Matt Kamenski

On July 28, 2019, I will do something I vowed I would never never do again... run a full marathon. Why? To benefit Back on My Feet and its mission of lifting people up out of homelessness, and to help a few Back on My Feet members run their first marathons ever!

Last year, I started volunteering with the San Francisco chapter of Back on My Feet (backonmyfeet.org), which helps people experiencing homelessness lift themselves up through the power of running, accountability, and community support. I was moved to action because seeing the growing population of homeless on the streets of SF continuously broke my heart. I don't believe anybody deserves to live like that. Do you?

I ran the 2018 SF Half Marathon with Back on My Feet, and raised nearly $6,000 to combat homelessness. I'm now doubling down to run my first marathon in nearly five years, and hoping to raise even more!

Back on My Feet is a national organization that fights homelessness in SF and 12 U.S. other cities. Through regular attendance and accountability at morning runs, participants qualify for employment services and housing opportunities.

By attending 5:45am Friday runs and leading weekend training workouts, I've met so many amazing people with incredible, inspirational stories to tell. One in particular, Joseph, is my running buddy who refused to leave me behind when I was struggling with a calf injury during last year's half marathon. In his words, by going through Back on My Feet's program, he "went from sleeping under a bridge two years ago, to running over it now."

Joseph is now training for his first marathon with me. I can't wait to cross the SF Marathon finish line with him!

Your donation will make a direct impact for people like Joseph, going towards financial aid for work clothes, tuition, transportation, and security deposits that BOMF members earn by completing stages of the program.

In 2018, BOMF SF served over 120 members, employing 36 and helping 14 receive housing assistance. Help us achieve even more in 2019 and beyond by donating to this amazing cause!

Check out photos, videos, and posts below from my experiences. Thank you... together, we can end homelessness, not only in SF, but everywhere!

A flashback to 2 weekends ago when Pete (right) and myself (left) drove to Santa Cruz to visit Joseph (middle) at his new home. We did a 9-mile trail run that was gnarly at times, but rewarding! Great way to kick off the marathon training.
