Michaela Morgan's Run for BoMF San Francisco

I have been on the Young Professionals Board of Back on My Feet since 2015 and have had the amazing opportunity to take part in all facets of our successful San Francisco launch.

Living in a city in such dire need of support for those experiencing homelessness has made involvement in this organization even more impactful for me. The issue is a tough one to tackle, but with community support and the right resources, we are making a measurable difference!

Back on My Feet seeks to revolutionize the way our society approaches homelessness. Our model demonstrates that if you first restore confidence, strength and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to take on the road ahead.

THE NEED

At any given time, approximately 7,539 individuals are experiencing homelessness in San Francisco - the City’s highest number in a decade.

For all in need in San Francisco, we aim to provide: practical training and employment resources for achieving independence; an environment that promotes accountability; and a community that offers compassion and hope. For all with the capacity to serve—volunteers, donors, community and corporate partners—we seek to engage you in the profound experience of empowering individuals to achieve what once seemed impossible through the seemingly simple act of putting one foot in front of the other.

OUR IMPACT

Since launching in 2007, Back on My Feet has served more than 6,000 individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness and engaged more than 100,000 volunteers and supporters. At any given time, 80% of our members are participating in our Next Steps program, working to secure employment and housing. Our members have run a collective 500,000 miles and obtained more than 4,000 jobs and homes. Within six months of becoming a Back on My Feet Alumnus, 90% of members maintain their employment, 60% receive a wage increase and 20% achieve a promotion.

What’s more, every $1 invested in Back on My Feet returns nearly $2.50 to the local community through increased economic output from employment and reduction in costs for shelter, medical services, incarceration and drug and alcohol treatment.

By combating homelessness through our innovative program, Back on My Feet proves that there is hope, that individuals can achieve things they never thought possible and that there are people who will support them along the way. Be one of those people and join us in the fight against homelessness today.
