Welcome to Sarah Sohlberg's Page

I’m training to run for Back on My Feet Baltimore in the Baltimore 10-Miler on June 3rd, which is around the corner! I’m so excited to be raising funds for such an amazing organization that works for an issue that is personally important to me.

Over my five years living in DC, I've had several opportunities to be involved in learning more about issues of housing and homelessness in the DMV area.

While at Georgetown, I got to work with the Center for Social Justice where I helped start the Homeless Outreach Program and Hypothermia Outreach Team. I spent many mornings with the guests of Georgetown Ministry Center, which is a safe space and resource center for people of the area experiencing homelessness.

In my junior year, I worked as a case management intern for Miriam's Kitchen, a soup kitchen and large homeless service provider in NW DC. I got to know an enormously diverse group of individuals: mothers, teenagers, college professors, artists, children, students, immigrants, athletes, all grouped together and stereotyped because of their housing status.

These experiences have only exposed me to the tip of the iceberg of the complex and deep systemic issue that is homelessness; complicated and compounded by addiction, institutionalized racism, the prison system, mental illness, and a lack of access to resources. This brings me back to why I'm running for BoMF!

Back on My Feet (BoMF) combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources.

How does BoMF accomplish this? When members of their program put one foot in front of the other at their tri-weekly runs and commit to trying their best they are welcomed into the extended BoMF family. This means they are invited to participate in the Next Steps Program which includes access to financial aid, job training, and financial literacy programs.

Does it work? In 2014 BoMF helped over 100 individuals accomplish their goals towards independence. This means over 100 individuals gained access to housing, jobs, or continuing education programs. So yes, it does work!

I’m honored to be a part of this extended BoMF family through my commitment to race and FundRace for the program. Every dollar donated through my efforts goes directly towards helping Back on My Feet support their members. And by donating, you will
become part of the extended BoMF family through your generosity.
